Colors of Sound Festival in Morelia, Mexico
While walking around the streets of Morelia, a beautiful colonial city in the state of Michoacán, México, I saw a flyer on a wall for this event. I took a photo of it and waited until the weekend to go.
The event location was hard to find, on a dead-end street in a rural area outside of town. Even my taxi driver (there is no Uber in Morelia), armed with GPS, wasn’t able to find it.
After I finally made it, I bought a VIP ticket at the door, which came with an open bar in a separate lounge area and a food truck with delicious food (El Asado DEL), all sponsored by Cerveza Dos Equis and organized by Green House in Jardin OLMOS Morelia.
I didn’t recognize any of the DJs, who were local favorites and some of the best in the region:
- Marco Almanz, one of the best DJs in México
- Gaby Guerra from tech house
- Joseli Camarillo
- Toby Alvarez from Roof Gallery
- Irving Lopez, resident DJ at Beer Pong Bar & Roof Gallery
- Beto Caraves, resident DJ at Rotter Bar
- Axl, DJ at Greenhouse Morelia
- DJ Harryz
- Rich Chavez, DJ at Greenhouse
The event started early, and the music was amazing. What an incredible experience, sitting in the grass while people arrived and feeling the bass and waves of the music. Colored powder was falling everywhere–in your face and on your clothes. It was a very unique moment and a memorable experience.
I went to grab my powder bags and went back to the Zona VIP. A group of young girls asked me if they can sit at my table. Of course I said yes. We ordered a bottle of Bacardi, started drinking together and became fast friends.
The vibe, the freedom, the music and all the colors made it an amazing experience. It felt like a live canvas, and began to understand the concept of colors of sound: faces and torsos colored blue, pink, green, yellow and orange.
I highly recommend Colors of Sound. Wear something white like I did and enjoy every moment. You will find events like this all around the world.
My pics are iPhone quality, but click here for some great professional photos of the event.
